The tradition of traditional college instruction has been around for a long time and has remained relatively unchanged. Being an instructor in such a setting requires that you adhere to the same teaching standards as before. The college professor will be associated with a subject matter expert who is likely to attain tenure and can serve dual roles as both an instructor and researcher. They will likely be peer-reviewed authors of articles in scholarly journals that are relevant to their fields. This type of instructor and education is still available, but an online college or university has been created.

You won’t find professor positions in modern online education. Many online universities employ adjuncts, and refer to their instructors simply as facilitators. While some universities require their instructors to meet annual professional development requirements, they rarely include the publishing of peer-reviewed journal article articles. A new type of educator is required to meet the needs of students in today’s modern education. Online universities should embrace the new type of instructor, known as a Modern Educator.

Lecture-driven classes are the traditional way to educate students. Students learn from the instructor and must then demonstrate their knowledge through assessments. They are aware that their professor or instructor is an expert in the subject matter they are studying. This teaching method is similar to primary education, and is teacher-centered. Online courses and online degrees have emerged as a new format for education. These courses were initially taught by traditional educators, but this has changed over time, particularly as adjuncts have taken the majority of the teaching roles. A new breed of educator emerged with the establishment of online education programs and schools.

Online learning has seen a rise in the demand for instructors. Online universities offer classes that start weekly, while others offer courses that start monthly. A majority of undergraduate teaching jobs were filled by adjuncts, who have a master’s in their subject. The number of online instructors has increased significantly over time. Many adjunct positions now require a doctorate. The fluctuation in enrollment, the small number of online instructor positions and the rise in degree specializations, especially in online teaching, has all contributed to the increasing pool of online instructors. Online schools offer a variety of teaching specializations. Students who have completed their master’s degrees are also added to the pool. There are currently nearly 2 million online adjunct instructors who teach online courses.

Teaching online may also require continuing education. Online universities usually require an annual professional development. These universities offer training courses and workshops to fulfill this requirement. While publishing scholarly journals may be an option to meet professional development requirements, most schools don’t require it. Modern teachers differ from college professors in how they present themselves in class. Online instructors are often called facilitators. However, some instructors may refer to themselves as professors to clarify their role in the learning process. Online universities often tell instructors to use their first names as a way of making their instructor seem casual and approachable, even though they may have a doctorate.

There are many types of educators in the field. You can have a master’s degree and teach undergraduate courses. Doctorate-level degrees can be used to teach both undergraduate and graduate students. There may be a requirement that instructors of doctoral programs be published in a similar manner as college professors. There is an urgent need to establish a new standard. Online education should not be governed by traditional learning methods. Traditional instructor qualifications should not apply to online educators. The time is right to create a new category of instructional professionals, known as Modern Educators.
